Mompreneur of the Week: Meet Kim Rock!

By Kim Rock of Keller Williams's The Kim Rock Group and Traci Walter, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Lower Bucks December 3, 2020

Each week, Macaroni Kid Lower Bucks will feature a different "Mompreneur" -- a local mom who also runs a small business in Lower Bucks. The challenges for small business owners during the COVID-19 pandemic have been unprecedented, and even more so for many moms who simultaneously juggle virtual schooling and the many social and emotional challenges that children face during this confusing time. For more information on how you or someone you know could be featured in an upcoming Mompreneur article, click here.

Meet Kim Rock!

I have been married to my husband Ben for 11 years, and we have two children: Ethan (8) and Lila (5).  I grew up in Bensalem, PA, and after graduating from Penn State University I initially began working in the marketing world. I actually got my my real estate license on the side as a hobby, but it quickly took off and I had to choose between my full-time marketing position and my real estate hobby. Real estate won!   It's an amazing career because it allows me to be able to be present for my children's events and not stuck in an office all day. However, it's also very challenging at times because real estate agents tend to be "on call" 24/7.

From Solo Agent to Team of Six

I am proud to run The Kim Rock Group. We are a full-service real estate team, licensed in both PA and NJ, and we specialize in first-time home buyers, moving-up buyers, and investors.  In the past 13 years as a full-time real estate agent, I have grown from being a single agent, to owning a team with 3 buyers' agents and 2 admins.  We pride ourselves on our customer service and treating clients like family.   We really stop and listen to our clients needs' and truly get to know them. To us, our clients are not just one real estate transaction; they're a part of our lives forever.

I'm proud of my team. We work hard, we always do the right thing, and we have a lot of fun. After 13 years in the industry, I've learned it's better to be lighthearted. Surrounding myself with amazing people has allowed me to find work/life balance while still giving clients an exceptional experience.

Between myself and my 3 buyers' agents and admin on the team, we have a collective 8 children under 10 years old, so believe us when we say we get what the typical wife/mom is looking for in terms of a house!   We can relate to your struggles, virtual school, the need for a home office, etc.  Because we can relate it makes the transaction and process so much easier for our clients, because they know we fully understand them.

Sharing the Workload

As a mom and entrepreneur, balancing work and my family has been my biggest struggle. I'm the type of person who wants to do the best at everything I do, and I can put a lot of pressure on myself. I was literally negotiating a contract while in labor in the hospital with my son! Now I realize that was complete insanity, but it led me to grow the team and learn about leverage. Surrounding myself with others to help take the burden off of myself completely has been a hard lesson to learn. As women we always want to do everything ourselves and never ask for help, but sometimes you need to!   It makes you better overall when you aren't trying to do everything yourself.
