Mompreneur of the Week: Meet Colleen Faltot!

By Colleen Faltot, Owner of Grist Mill Fitness and Nutrition in Yardley, and Traci Walter, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Lower Bucks November 26, 2020

Welcome to the second installment of our new Mompreneur Series! Each week, Macaroni Kid Lower Bucks will feature a different "Mompreneur" -- a local mom who also runs a small business in Lower Bucks. The challenges for small business owners during the COVID-19 pandemic have been unprecedented, and even more so for many moms who simultaneously juggle virtual schooling and the many social and emotional challenges that children face during this confusing time. For more information on how you or someone you know could be featured in an upcoming Mompreneur article, click here.

Colleen's Background, Family and Training

First and foremost, I'm a mom to the most caring and empathetic five-year-old boy, Chance, and a Trainer and Nutrition Coach after that. I’m a certification junkie! I'm always learning more and challenging myself in order to better serve my clients. My main certifications include the following:

  • Nutritional Coaching Institute Level 1 & 2
  • Nutrition Coach
  • Hormone Coach
  • Mindset Specialist
  • Integral Institute of Nutrition (IIN) Holistic Health Coach
  • NASM Certified Personal Trainer.

I’ve always struggled with body image issues, eating disorders, and the whole gamut that so many of us women and moms deal with. Pregnancy was REALLY hard on my mindset. I gained 80 pounds that I successfully lost within 5 months post-partum. However, I spoke to SO many women who struggled for years after they had their children with not feeling connected to their bodies or like their bodies were no longer their own. In order to help these women, I enrolled at IIN to become a Holistic Health Coach so I could better help and coach moms to take back their bodies after pregnancy.

A Customized Approach at Grist Mill Fitness and Nutrition

My business is Grist Mill Fitness and Nutrition based out of Yardley, Pa. We offer personal training, small group training, nutrition coaching and accountability coaching. Grist Mill is a special place because we offer our clients a customized approach to reach their goals. We focus on the root cause of the issues they’re coming to us with so we can help them create a customized plan that will allow them “food freedom” and get them off the hamster wheel where so many of us mamas get stuck.

Balancing a Business and Motherhood

Ahh the mom guilt is REAL! Mindset is KEY when it comes to motherhood in general, let alone juggling a business with motherhood. I've invested in some amazing business coaches the last few years who have really helped me find balance here. When I first opened up, I treated my job like I was an emergency room doctor and dropped everything to answer emails or texts within minutes of receiving them. Being introduced to time blocking has CHANGED MY LIFE! Now I block time out for getting back to emails, scheduling clients, weekly program design, etc. and it makes all the balls much easier to juggle!

As moms, so many of us put ourselves last. It’s SO important to remember the whole airplane / life mask scenario. You have to fill YOUR cup first so you can pour into everyone else’s cups in your life. If I don’t put myself first, I'm not good for my son, my family, my members, or my friends. It’s not selfish to put yourself first. In fact, it's essential to be the best you can be!
