Halloween Candy Overload?

Where to Donate Your Excess Halloween Candy in Lower Bucks

By Traci Walter, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Lower Bucks October 29, 2020
Halloween might look a little different this year, but one thing is the same: You can still donate your extra candy to a good cause. I know my kids think there's no such thing as "too many sweets," but those little fun-size bars and minis start to add it up. If you're tired of your kids bouncing off the walls after a few days of sugar overload (or, like me, just want to remove the temptation for myself!), check out these organizations that will gladly accept your unwanted candy for a good cause!

1. Treats for Troops

Soldiers’ Angels Treats for Troops is a Halloween candy collection program in which local businesses accept excess Halloween candy from kids in exchange for goodies.
Once collected, businesses ship the candy to Soldiers’ Angels, who then distributes it to deployed service members and veterans. Kids can earn buyback prizes, and parents can request a tax-deductible receipt for their donation. Click here to find a candy collection site near you.

2. Halloween Candy Buy Back

This group partners with local businesses to get extra candy out of the hands of your little ones in exchange for healthy items such as toothbrushes, hygiene kits and coupons. Halloween Candy Buy Back partners with Move America Forward and Operation Shoebox. Enter your zip code here to find a participating business near you.

3. Operation Gratitude

Operation Gratitude's Halloween Candy Give-Back Program has been connecting communities with Military and First Responder Heroes each fall since 2007. This organization donates candy to deployed troops, veterans, and first responders with the goal of forging strong bonds between the civilian and service communities. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Operation Gratitude is unable to provide public drop-off locations this year. Donors may either pay to ship candy to them, or contact a local Military Base, Veteran Organization, or First Responder Department and ask if they are interested and able to take the candy.

4. Operation Shoebox

This organization is ready to receive your candy donations — they distribute candy on Halloween, Christmas and Easter to troops that are missing the festivities while away from home. Mail your candy donation to:
Operation Shoebox
8360 East Highway 25
Belleview. Fl. 34420

5. Operation Trick or Treating for the Troops

Organized by Operation Stars & Stripes, this group accepts donations of excess Halloween candy to be used to fill stockings for the Operation Holiday Stockings Campaign.  For more information and to schedule a pick-up or drop-off, click here.

6. Ronald McDonald House Charities

Call your local chapter to find out rules for bringing your unopened Halloween candy for severely sick children and their families to enjoy.

  Happy Halloween!
