Macaroni Kid Lower Bucks spoke to Mary Beth Meyer, the new owner of My Gym Yardley, a local fitness center for kids! Located on Stony Hill Road in Yardley, the facility offers classes, birthday parties and parents’ nights out. When did you take over ownership of MyGym Yardley?
I took over ownership this past July.
Tell me about your background. Is this your first time owning this type of business?
Yes, this is my first time owning this type of business. I grew up in a large family and was surrounded by children from the beginning. I knew at an early age that I enjoyed teaching children and decided to major in education for college. I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, and then went onto receive my Masters in Education. I have worked in various learning environments over the years including subbing for Pennsbury and Council Rock school district. My philosophy about early childhood education is one that combines the academic cognitive skills with an active physical environment. My Gym shares the same philosophy so it was a marriage made in heaven.
What are you most looking forward to with your new business?
I am looking forward to growing the business and providing new opportunities for learning in both the physical and pre-academic elements in young children within my community. I am also excited to update and add some new and exciting changes, such as a rock wall that’s coming soon to My Gym.
Are there any events open to non-members, such as Kids Night Out or Open Play?
There are!! We have what we call Practice & Play. This is an open gym time for both members and non-members. We also have seasonal events, such as our amazing Halloween party, Cocoa with Santa and a visit from the Easter Bunny! These are amazing events that both members and non-members can enjoy!
What do you love most about Yardley?
While many areas of Bucks County have seen significant growth, Yardley has been able to maintain a small-town country charm. As a small- size gym, this affords a unique place in the Yardley landscape for our business.
Do you have a favorite spot in Bucks County?
This is a hard one as there are so many amazing spots in Bucks County. I absolutely love Peddler’s Village, especially during Christmas time. But, Newtown Borough will always hold a special place in my heart, as most of my childhood was spent walking into town with friends and family.
